Quarantine Reflections, 2021
Quarantine Reflections is a series of 24 oil pastel works created on repurposed meal paper bags during Sydney’s 14‑day hotel quarantine in May 2021. Each bag carried the daily imprint of confinement — stamped with our room number 933 and marked x2 for two occupants — small bureaucratic gestures that became part of the visual language of the series.

By upcycling these disposable materials and combining rice paste, coffee, toilet paper, and oil pastel, I transformed the objects of survival into a quiet record of isolation, care, and resilience. These works sit within my ongoing exploration of inner landscapes, revealing what becomes visible when attention is slowed, repeated, and shaped by constraint.

The series was first featured by SBS Filipino and later selected as the inaugural feature of Headquarters’ Sustaining Practice Grants, recognised for embodying Crip Time, self‑determination, and disabled‑led practice.

These works continue my ongoing exploration of inner landscapes, using the materials of survival — repurposed, improvised, and deeply personal — to hold what was felt but not always seen.
