Quarantine Reflections 2021

Quarantine Reflections is a series of 24 oil pastel works created on meal paper bags during Sydney’s 14‑day hotel quarantine in May 2021. Each bag was stamped with our room number 933 and marked x2 for two occupants — small daily imprints that became part of the visual language of the series. Using rice paste, coffee, toilet paper, and oil pastel, I transformed these disposable materials into a quiet record of isolation, care, and resilience. The project was first featured by SBS Filipino, and later selected as the inaugural feature of Headquarters’ Sustaining Practice Grants, recognised for embodying the principles of Crip Time, self‑determination, and disabled‑led practice. These works continue my ongoing exploration of inner landscapes, using the materials of survival to hold what was felt but not always seen.

Acknowledgement of Country

I acknowledge the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation, the Traditional Custodians of the land where I live and create. I pay my respects to Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Land never ceded.
