Divine Contradictions (Ongoing)

Divine Contradictions explores the tension between imposed faith and ancestral identity. Drawing from Tagalog and Ilocano symbolism, Baybayin script, inabel textiles, and indigenous motifs, the series reflects the spiritual and cultural fractures shaped by 500 years of colonisation.

In these works, the reflective world of my practice meets ancestral memory. Each figure becomes a site of conflict and reclamation — carrying devotion, burden, and the quiet resilience of those who lived between worlds. They are not saints, but witnesses: carriers of history, embodiment of survival, and keepers of the unbroken line between past and present.

Created across different years yet guided by the same inquiry, this ongoing series forms a continuous thread in my practice. It transforms inherited histories into contemplative forms, revealing the inner landscapes shaped by faith, identity, and cultural memory.

Acknowledgement of Country

I acknowledge the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation, the Traditional Custodians of the land where I live and create. I pay my respects to Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Land never ceded.
